Aussie Farmers Direct (AFD) have recently launched The General Store, an online-only supermarket stocking popular brands at crazy low prices, with some bulk value lines not available in current supermarkets.
The General Store supermarket items will exceed IGA and Aldi, and provide some real competition for Coles and Woolworths who have a combined market share of over 60%. The General Store’s other main focus is providing Australian grown products, giving consumers more choice when it comes to buying from Australia or other countries.
Aussie Farmers Direct CEO Keith Louie said the platform complements the hundreds of all- Aussie fresh produce lines currently offered through Aussie Farmers Direct.
“Customers love receiving their fresh produce from smaller Australian farmers and local suppliers direct to their door. Until now customers still needed to go to the supermarket for all their pantry staples, but The General Store solves that problem,” he said.
Aussie Farmers Direct gives Australian food and grocery manufacturers an alternate path to get to the market, while bypassing Coles and Woolworths and gives prominence to Australian-grown and made products first.
“With Aussie Farmers Direct and The General Store becoming the third pillar in the online grocery market, local grocery manufacturers are no longer in the grip of an online supermarket duopoly.”
“Every week we’ll have low prices across The General Store, as well as hundreds of Specials” Mr Louie said.
Currently The General Store has only launched in Melbourne, but there are plans for a national roll-out in the coming months.
