Famous NYC dorm chef brings smallest ever restaurant to Sydney!

New York is famous for its culinary scene, but the hottest reservation right now is not a proper restaurant at, but a university dorm room the chef himself calls a ‘fauxsterant.’

Jonah Reider, 21 a student at Columbia University, decided to open a restaurant in the small living room of his campus dorm room. You may be thinking that no-one would be interested in this, however he has a waiting list of over 4,000 people and the New York Times quoted it as ‘the hottest table in town.’

Jonah began cooking for a few friends from his dorm room, not expecting to become the next restaurant phenomenon.

Jonah always had a love for cooking. So much so that his high school newspaper ran a headline that asked: “Is Jonah Reider the next Martha Stewart?”

The small dorm room ‘restaurant’ is called ‘Pith’, serving up-market modern American cuisine. He charges guests based on his ingredients and usually it’s no more than $15-$20 per guest. To Jonah it’s not about the money, it’s about new experiences and talking to new people ever night.

The 21-year-old is bringing Pith to Sydney from Saturday 29th- Sunday 30th October. And reservations were just as hard to get, as they are in New York.

If you’re one of the lucky ones with a seat at the Darlinghurst restaurant , enjoy, because you’ve skipped about 4,000 New Yorkers!
